Assoc. Prof. Olaf Thalmann, PhD

Assoc. Prof. Olaf Thalmann, PhD - is the outstanding molecular biologist and evolutionary biologist from Germany, the author of many publications in the field of genetic adaptability and evolutionary history. His research papers have been published in the world's most important scientific journals such as Science, BMC Evolutionary Biology or Molecular Ecology Resources.

His researches involve mainly mammals such as various canids including man's best friend - the dog or a critical bioinvader - the raccoon dog. Using a range of genetic data generated from DNA and RNA of a wide variety of sources including ancient and modern materials he is reconstructing the respective evolutionary and adaptive histories. One of the doctors Thalmann's greatest achievements is the use of genetic methods to explain the origin of today's dogs!

He Graduated from the Christian-Albrechts University of Kiel in Germany and worked on theUniversity of California (Los Angeles) and Physiology University of Turku (Finland) and Uppsala(Sweden). Now he is the Assistant Professor at the Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Metabolic Diseases of Poznan University of Medical Sciences, where he carries out his work titled: "Cultural changes in the evolution of humans and its effects on the epigenetic mechanisms of modern lifestyle diseases" as a part of a POLONEZ grant.
